Materials & Care

Every Steelixe jewelry piece is made from 316L stainless steel: a marine-grade alloy used in watchmaking and surgical instruments. It is water-resistant, tarnish-resistant, and safe for sensitive skin — which is why it holds up in Egyptian summers where plated brass and cheap alloys fail.

What is 316L stainless steel?

316L is a low-carbon stainless steel alloyed with chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. The molybdenum is what matters: it protects against corrosion from sweat and humidity. That's why 316L is the standard for dive watches.

How 316L compares

Material Tarnish Water & sweat Sensitive skin Daily wear
316L stainless steel Resistant Resistant Safe for most skin Excellent — made for it
925 sterling silver Tarnishes; needs polishing Sensitive to sweat and humidity Generally safe Needs regular care
Gold vermeil / plated Plating wears over time Plating sensitive to water Depends on base metal Occasional wear
Fashion alloys (brass, zinc) Fades and discolors quickly Poor Can irritate; may leave marks Weeks, not years

Care guide

316L asks very little. To keep every piece at its best:

  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after heavy wear.
  • Let perfume and lotion dry before putting your piece on.
  • Remove before swimming in pools — chlorine is harsh on any metal.
  • Store in a closed pouch or box.
  • Remove during sleep and intense training to avoid scratches.

Honest limits

Water-resistant is not indestructible. Any metal can scratch against harder surfaces, and gold-tone finishes need gentler treatment than raw steel. We'd rather tell you that here than let you find out later.
