What Le Male Le Parfum smells like

Cardamom opens it warm and dry rather than fresh, which is the first sign this is not the blue-tin Le Male. Lavender and iris hold the heart — the iris in particular is what gives Le Parfum its slightly powdery, expensive-smelling quality — and then vanilla takes over almost completely, wrapped in soft woods and amber. It is closer to a modern amber fougere than to a barbershop scent, and it is one of the strongest performers Jean Paul Gaultier has released.

Top notes are Cardamom; the heart is Lavender and Iris; the base settles on Vanilla, Woody Notes and Amber.

When to wear it

Very much an evening fragrance, and the one to reach for when you want to be noticed. Cold weather suits it best; a single spray is usually enough indoors. It is at its best in winter and autumn, it is a harder wear in summer.
